Workshop Title: The Ohio River: A New Century

Time: 10a-5p, but we encourage you to arrive early for a tour of the Living Lands & Waters barges!!!

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

This workshop will take place aboard Living Lands & Waters floating classroom, barges, and aluminum plate boats. Weather and river permitting, the morning session will take place inside the classroom with the afternoon spent in plate boats visiting various points of interest along the river.

The goal of this workshop is to familiarize the audience to the Ohio River by covering a variety of topics addressing the changes that this river has experienced over the last century. Those in attendance will learn and see firsthand this ancient river, how the river has changed over time, and how these changes have affected the plant, animal, and human lives that it supports.

The History of the Ohio River, the Ohio River as a Natural Resource, Recreational and Commercial Uses of the River, Impacts to River Ecology, River Stewardship, and MUCH MORE!!!

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
Directions to the Louisville Rowing Club Boat House off of River Road near downtown. The Boat House is located behind Stop Lite Liquor Party Store at 1401 River Rd. We're just east of the new Tumbleweed Restaurant on the newest part of WaterFront Development Park. The Boat House phone number is 584-9441. Yellow Parking Lot area is where you want to park near the Boat House.

Directions from the east on I-71going west, exit at Zorn Ave. Turn right at the end of the exit, you're now facing the river and the Water Tower. At the light turn left onto River Rd. Go almost a mile and half, when you pass Franfort Ave. the next drive will be the yellow parking area turn right park and walk up to the red brick building with garage doors all around the entire building. The Louisville Rowing Club is on the west side of the building facing the river. 584-9441

Directions from downtown. Coming from Louisville Slugger Field at Main St. and Preston St. go north towards the river and Preston St. turns into River Rd. under the expressway at WaterFront Park. Follow River Rd. east until you pass the old railroad bridge on your left and Tumbleweed Restaurant on your left. You will come up on Stop Lite Liquor Party store on your left than the Yellow Parking Lot, turn left into the lot. Walk up to the red brick Boat House with garage doors all around it. Louisville Rowing Club is on the west side of the building. 584-9441

Directions from Joe's Crab Shack. Turn left out of Joe's Parking area onto River Road and bring that up to Witherspoon St. and turn left. You will come to the intersection of Preston St. to the right and River Rd. to the left. You can either turn left and follow the directions from downtown or you can go straight on Witherspoon Rd. it will run behind Louisville Slugger Field on the right then the Extreme Park on the right and it end at River Rd. Turn right, you'll pass Tumbleweed Restaurant on the left and you will come up on to Stop Lite Liquor Party Store and the Yellow Parking Lot. Turn left into the lot and come up to the red brick Boat House with garage doors all around it . Louisville Rowing Club is on the west side of the building. 584-9441

Directions from the south I-65 going north take the Brook St. exit and follow that street all the way till it ends at Witherspoon St. and turn right. Follow Witherspoon until it ends at River Rd. Turn right onto River Rd. pass Tumbleweed Restaurant on the left and come up to Stop Lite Liquor Party Store and the Yellow Parking Lot. Turn left and walk up to the red brick Boat House with garage doors all around it. Louisville Rowing Club is on the west side of the building. 584-9441

Directions from the east I-64 going west, merge onto I-65 south stay in the right lane and immediately get off at the first exit Jefferson St. & Brook St. Stay to the left when you get off of the exit and it will put you on Brook St. Take this north till it ends at Witherspoon St. and then turn right onto Witherspoon St.. Take this street till it ends at River road you will pass behind Louisville Slugger Field. Turn right onto River Rd. you'll pass Tumbleweed Restaurant on the left and come up to Stop Lite Liquor Party Store and the Yellow Parking Lot. Turn left and walk up to the red brick Boat House with garage doors all around it. Louisville Rowing Club is on the west side of the building. 584-9441

Directions from the west I-64 going east, exit at I-65 south and immediately get off at the first exit on the right at Jefferson St. & Brook St. stay to the left of the exit and it will put you onto Brook St. Now follow the directions immediately above these directions.
