Organize Cleanup

 
 

Since Living Lands & Waters can’t be everywhere we are calling on you to help us out. We are looking for groups to follow in our footsteps, and organize a group to clean your local area. Have you always wanted to help out your community and you could never find a way to get started? Here is your chance to organize a group! Following the steps below to get off to a good start. If you would like more information, contact Living Lands & Waters to request a copy of our Community Cleanup Organizing Plan. Please remember while the booklets are free, we are a not-for-profit organization, and we would appreciate any kind of funding to help defray the cost of our Community Cleanup handouts.

Ten Steps to making your local river a cleaner place:

  1. Create a steering committee
  2. Appoint a Coordinator
  3. Scout the cleanup area (terrain, boat ramps, and roads)
  4. Get Fundraising from local businesses and recognize them
  5. Make a volunteer committee to recruit, speak at group meetings, and review safety
  6. Use publicity (Press releases, Fliers, Radio, and call media places)
  7. Food for volunteers (water, donuts,& lunch) contact local grocery stores
  8. Equipment (Gloves, Bags, Shovels, Pry bars, and cutting tools)
  9. Find place for acquired trash
  10. Always thank the volunteers for there help (newspaper, announce at event)
